Why Theater?
I, 2016 through 2019, I volunteered at Beaumont Community Players to learn more about theater as it could apply to stop-motion. I contributed graphics, worked as a stagehand, and assisted in costume fabrication, set construction, props, and general upkeep of the building. Many of the props have more detail than necessary for stage productions (details on wine labels), but the cast had fun reading them!
Props for Disaster! The Musical
In Spring 2019, Beaumont Community Players produced "Disaster! The Musical" with director Donny Avery. We crunched the numbers and decided it would be cheaper to make all of the props, rather than rent them. Within two or three months, I had 60 line items ready to go, many of them handmade with scrap material and papier-mâché. Since the show was performed in an intimate setting and I wasn't sure what would be visible to the audience, I decided to include a lot of detail and customized several props for some of the actors to enjoy as a personal joke. For example, the only thing labeled on Marianne's ship blueprints was the secret room with the trapdoor.
